Chief Ogwu J. Onoja (born on 19 February 1968) is a Legal Practitioner, and Notary Public with the Supreme Court of Nigeria. Chief Onoja has authored several publications on legal and social subjects in Nigeria amongst which are: (1) The Supreme Court Rules: Practice and Procedure and (2) The Court of Appeal Rules: Practice and Procedure all published in 2010, written in honour of the chief justice of Nigeria, Aloysius Katsina-Alu. and he's currently working on the Federal High Court Rules: Practice and Procedure soon to be published.
Birth and education
Ogwu J. Onoja was born on 19 February 1968 at Idah, Kogi State, Nigeria to MR. JOB IDOKO ONOJA and MRS. MARY OMADA ONOJA both of blessed memory. Chief Onoja graduated from Ofante High School, Kogi State in 1985 and he proceeded to the School of Basic Studies, Makurdi where he obtained his Advanced Level Certificate in 1987. He studied at University of Jos (UNIJOS), Plateau State from 1987–1990 where he earned his Bachelor of Laws LLB (Hons), attended Nigerian Law School Lagos for his Barrister at Laws (BL) postgraduate and professional qualification to practice law in Nigeria, and did his compulsory National Youth Service Corps at Nkwere Local Government Council in the old Imo State of Nigeria between 1991–1992 service years. From 1996–1997, he was at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) for his Masters at laws (LLM) Degree. He obtain his Postgraduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) at University of Calabar between 2000 - 2001. And also his masters of Business Administration (MBA) Degree from the University of Calabar in 2002.
From 1992 - 1994 Chief Onoja started his legal career with the firm of Humphrey Abah & Co, legal practitioners Lagos before he entered into Partnership with Margaret Alolo Abogede in Abogede, Onoja & Co in 1994. From 1997-1999 he was with Messrs Okpoko Onomigbo & Co, SAN as counsel. In 1999 Chief Onoja started his personal law firm, O.J. Onoja & Associates as Principal solicitor with offices at Lagos and Abuja and in that capacity he has been representing individuals and corporate organization in matters at all levels of the courts in Nigeria and in general negotiations, among which are (1) Barr. Ime Nya Asanga, Hon. Bassey Eyibio Essien vs.INEC, Peoples Democratic Party, Prince Uwem Ita Etuk, Mr. Bassey Albert Akpan and Obong Ime Bassey Okon in suit No; FHC /ABJ/CS/223/2011. (2) Mr. Ichado vs. FCT Minister (3) Mrs. Rachael Elohor Obodo vs. Council of Legal Education & 2ors in suit no. FHC/ABJ/CS/211/2008
On November 2, 2009, His Royal Majesty (HRM), Alhaji (Dr.) Aliyu Ocheja Obaje, CFR, the "ATTAH IGALA" invest Chief Onoja with the traditional Beaded Title of AGENYI-ATTAH of Igala Kingdom meaning “Attah Igala’s confidant”. He is married to Mrs. Rosemary Onoja and has five Children.
