Keith Elwood Antony Jr (13 January 1946 - 23 March 1983), professionally known by his stage name Bobby Prescott, was an American stand-up comedian, actor, voice actor, singer and producer. Prescott was best known for his leading roles in the films (1973) as Jerry Shelby, (1977) as Andy Kellerman, (1980) as Pete Banks and Osman (1983) as Johnny Osman and is also famous for his role as Bob Hodges in the CBS television sitcom from 1976 to 1981. His voice has also been used in the animated films (1972) as Tom Sawyer and Merlin (1978) as Sir Gawain. His death at the age of 37 was the result of internal bleeding and a punctured lung following a massive car crash, caused by drunk driving on his part.

Life and career

Early life

Bobby Prescott was born Keith Elwood Antony Jr on the 23 January 1946 in Austin, Texas in the United States of America. Prescott was named after his father Keith Eldoowd Antony Sr, a lawyer, while his mother was Jane Windsor, a schoolteacher. Prescott's parents separated when Prescott was only a few weeks old, and later divorced a month later, but they shared custody over Prescott throughout his childhood life.

After his parents divorced, Prescott moved with his mother to New York City, while his father remained in Austin. Prescott's father later moved to New York City to make it easier for he and Prescott's mother to share custody over Prescott. Prescott and his father's middle name, "Elwood", was taken from the musician and actor , whom Prescott's grandfather was a fan of.

Education

To receive his primary education, Prescott first began attending to Morrisania Elementary School in Morrisania, Bronx. However, while still in primary one, Prescott was expelled from the school for swearing at his teacher, vandalising the teachers' cars and throwing a brick through the school window.

Next, Prescott began attending Kathryn Phelan Elementary School in Woodside, Queens. Prescott remained at the school before, in primary 5, he was expelled for vandalising the classroom in which he was studying in. It was then that Prescott was discovered to have bipolar disorder, and had to received medication and had to receive home tutoring for both his primary and academic education.

When he wanted to begin training as a comedian, actor and singer, he tried to attend American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City, but was rejected due to his disorder. Instead, Prescott was sent by his primary and secondary home tutor to try the American Musical and Dramatic Academy who accepted him, but hired his home tutor for support. In 1965 he began training at the university, but left to pursue a career in 1967, after two years there.
