Greek Orthodox Christians in Greater Syria are Orthodox Christians who live in the borders of the historic area of Greater Syria particularly Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Palestine, Iraq, Kuwait, Sinai and Hatay. In Syria, Lebanon, Turkey, Iraq and Kuwait they belong to the Greek Orthodox Church of Antioch and in Jordan and Palestine in Greek Orthodox Church of Jerusalem.

History

Syria

In Syria they can be found in all the major cities (Damascus, Aleppo, Homs, Hamma, Latakia and As-Suwayda) and the Wadi Al-Nasarah. They are well-educated and well versed in finance. They form 5% of Syria's total population. They are of Assyrian, Greek and Arab origin and speak Arabic.

Lebanon

In Lebanon they form 10% of country's total population. They are the majority only in Koura district. The town of Amioun is 100% Greek Orthodox and they are the main group and in the town of Marjayoun. They can be found in the cazas of Koura, Akkar, Batrun, Metn, Alley, Zahleh, Marjayoun and Hasbaya and in the cities of Beirut, Amioun, Tripoli, Zahle, Batrun, Marjayoun, Halba, Aley, and Rashaya. They are highly educated and well versed in finance. They are of Phoenician, Assyrian, Greek and a fewer degree Arab origin. Their mother tongue is Arabic.

Jordan

In Jordan they form 3%. They form the majority only in the town of Fuheis but they are present in all the big cities. They are highly educated and well versed in finance just like in Syria and Lebanon. In addition to Syria and Lebanon Jordanian Greek Orthodox Christians are of fully Arab descent.

Palestine

Palestine's Church is regarded by Orthodox Christians as the mother church of all of Christendom. In Palestine, Greek Orthodox Christians are present in Jerusalem, Jaffa, Haifa, Acre, Ramallah, Bethlehem, Nazareth, Nablus and in many smaller towns. They are mostly Arabic speaking with some having Greek or Assyrian origins.
