The Arellano University in Pasay (Pamantasang Arellano sa Pasay in Filipino), officially as Arellano University – José Abad Santos Campus (abbreviated as AU-JASC), is a private, nonsectarian university located in Pasay, Philippines and was one of the constituent universities of Arellano University and was established in 1945 as José Abad Santos High School. The campus was named after José Abad Santos y Basco, the fifth Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Philippines who also served as the acting President of the Philippines during World War II.

The university is composed of several autonomous colleges, schools and institutes, each conferring undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate degrees, and the basic education units. The athletic teams are the Arellano Chiefs, members of the National Collegiate Athletic Association and the National Capital Region Athletic Association.

History

The university was founded in 1945, then was known as José Abad Santos High School. The university took more than four score to reach the success it has today. In 1986, the Colleges of the nearby AU – Apolinario Mabini Campus transferred to this university, with the exception of the School of Law, and has since the university became one of the leading universities in Pasay.

Campus

The campus lies on an area in Pasay situated in the busy thoroughfare of Taft Avenue. Beside it lies two bus terminals and lies near at Gil Puyat LRT Station. It is the first campus of Arellano University in Pasay, the other being the Mabini campus. The first structures within the campus were the Jose Abad Santos High School and the Main Building. The Annex was built in the early years after establishment to accommodate more students. The campus has an spacious quadrangle, and several well landscaped gardens. At present, it is one of the most prestigious universities within Pasay.

Administration and organization

A faculty of approximately 50 professors, lecturers, and instructors serve the university. The campus was under the supervision of the President of Arellano University and the Board of Trustees. A governing Student Council is present, organizing student activities. Schools and collegiate institutes have their own respective organization and council, governing collegiate activities.

Academics

The basic education of the university provides secondary education and was one of the well-known high school establishment within the city. The campus is the home to the José Abad Santos High School, one of the well-known high school institution within the city and was the home to over 1,400 students.
