1993 Bombay, March 12 is an upcoming multilingual historical family drama film that marks the directorial debut of noted screenwriter Babu Janardhanan. It stars Mammootty, Roma, Krishna, Shaari, Lal and Babydiya in pivotal roles. The film is based on 1993 Bombay bomb blasts and is reportedly an unofficial sequel to Mani Ratnam's Bombay (1995). The film will be simultaneously shot in Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu. There is also buzz that the film might be shot in Hindi as well. The film's production commenced on second week of February and is being completed from Coimbatore, Mumbai, Hyderabad and various parts of Kerala and Rajasthan.
Synopsis
The film is based on the real life riot incident and bombings that hit Mumbai on March 12, 1993. The film depicts the effect the incident had on the locals of Mumbai and particularly revolves around the effects of the blasts in the lives of three common men. The story revolves around Sanathana Bhat, a Hindu priest, who later converts to Islam and becomes Sameer, a Municipality worker. He gets married to Abida (Roma), a young Muslim woman from a village in Kerala. Sameer and Abida have premonitions about the bomb blasts, which change the course of their lives forever.
